clay animal sculptures

My clay animal sculptures are created through a detailed, hands-on process that brings each animal to life with realism, movement, and expression. Every piece begins with carefully selected reference images to ensure accuracy in form, anatomy, and character.

The process starts by building a strong internal armature using aluminum wire, wire mesh, and foil. This structure forms the foundation of the sculpture, defining the animal’s shape and allowing me to create natural movement and posture. Once the armature is complete, it is wrapped and refined to create a smooth, consistent surface for sculpting.

I then apply polymer clay ovr the entire form, shaping and refining the details. This is where the clay animal sculptures truly come to life - through the careful creation of musculature, fur texture, wrinkles, and facial features. Special attention is given to expression and gesture, giving each animal a sense of presence and personality.

To enhance realism, I use glass beads for the eyes, adding depth and a lifelike quality that draws you in. Once sculpting is complete, the piece is baked to harden the clay, making it durable and long-lasting.

After baking, each sculpture is hand-painted with acrylics, using reference images to capture the animal’s natural coloring and subtle variations. This final step adds richness, depth, and realism to the finished piece.

These sculptures are inspired by a deep connection to animals and a desire to capture their spirit, movement, and individuality. From horses and elephants to birds, cats, and dogs, each sculpture is a unique expression of that connection - crafted with care, intention, and attention to detail.
